Knocking... -Post scriptum-

THE VISA OFFICER who screened my application in Paris turned out to be a very nice lady who showed interested in why I didn't have an invitation letter from the conference organizers. "Because I didn't ask for it" — said I, feeling I was making a mistake. "I have a letter from the conference's media office granting me accreditation as media representative; I thought it was enough" — added I, noticing she didn't seem to agree. "Who will pay your expenses while attending the conference?" — she asked then. My application included a letter from the organization I work for promising to do exactly that, so I felt I was on a less slippery ground and answered her question. She seemed satisfied this time and, after a long wait, I got my passport back with the visa and a welcome letter.

The letter says that the final decision as to whether I'll be allowed or not to enter the country will be taken by the immigration officer at the port of entry who will check my documentation upon arrival. "You must be able to convince the officer that you are a genuine visitor", insists once again the letter. So, that one is likely to be my frowning St. Peter. I'd better get an invitation letter before meeting the guy.
